Lilies and birds of the air.
Wealth and worry.
What are these to us? In this day and age, can we hear Jesus' prescription for our lives in the kingdom and see how it can have anything to do with us? Pursuit of wealth is the meaning of our lives, and worry is the adrenaline in our veins. Considering the lilies and birds of the air are for those rare fleeting moments we might take a vacation or a deep breath.
This is the challenge of this Sunday's Gospel text - proclaiming Jesus' words, and shining light on what they mean for us now, and showing the freedom and life they are meant to give us. Given our culture, given our selfishness, this can be a tough one. Come Holy Spirit!
