Friday Five is In the Garage

RevGal Friday Five: Garage Sale Lovin'

1) Are you a garage saler?
I enjoy them as a fun thing to do on a nice summer's day. But I am not hard core garage saler.

2) If so, are you an immediate buyer or a risk taker who comes back later when prices are lower?
I'm an immediate buyer. If it's something I want, I go for it!

3) Seriously, if you're not a garage saler, you are probably not going to want to play this one.(That wasn't really #3.) 3) This is the real #3: What's the best treasure you've found at a yard or garage sale?
I haven't found anything really fabulous. But I have found some great clothes for my daughter (it's a great feeling to pay a quarter for a great pair of jeans for her instead of $10 at the store!)

4)If you've done one yourself, at church or at home, was it worth the effort?
I've helped do one at church. They are SO MUCH work, especially the clean up afterwards, and we didn't make enough to make all that work worth it. Other fundraisers are much more effective! I've never done one at home because I've never lived anywhere that a garage sale would work. Though I certainly have enough stuff for one!!!

5) Can you bring yourself to haggle?
No, not really. It makes me uncomfortable, and I end up blathering.

BONUS: For the true aficionado: Please discuss the impact of Ebay, Craig's List, Freecycle, etc... on the church or home yard/garage sale.
I've found a few things on Ebay, but have not explored the other options. I think they've just made the general public put more value in our junk. Though, I love the idea of Freecycle. Recycling our stuff by passing it on for free to someone who could use it is a great idea.

Tomorrow Lil' Princess and I will be starting our garage sale season by going to an all-city garage sale in the town down the road. We're going with a fun family from one of the churches, and making a day of it. There are more places to go to than you can get to in one day, so we'll have to figure out our plan of attack. The town publishes a map, with a list of the main types of items each site has, so we'll have our treasure map to follow as we whiz around town. Should be a fun way to jump into garage sale-ing.
